Warriors of Mayhem Status

I have been very hard at work on my latest army, a Chaos warband known as the Warriors of Mayhem.   While they are primarily Slaanesh devotees, they count Khorne Beserkers and Rubric Marines amongst their number.  Worship of Nurgle is strictly forbidden.

Let's look at some units, starting with the first model that was completed, a Hellbrute.

You may notice that the Hellbrute is standing on a custom 3D printed base with a Chaos star.

My Hellbrute needed a friend, so a Winged Demon Prince was Summoned.  Here they can be seen next to a few of the Konor Campaign buttons I had earned.  Sadly, I have not made much more progress on the demon prince.

I saw the Warpsmith, and knew I had to try my hand at making one.  Here's an in progress shot.

After a few more mechandrites, and some paint he was looking like this:

Next up is a Deimos Pattern Predator.  I CAD modeled and then 3D printed a turret, side sponsons and front hull plate.  I really like how this one came together.

Next time we'll see some Chaos Space Marines, Cultists, Khorne Beserkers, Chosen, Raptors and Havocs.

Till then, let me know what you think.

Abaddon, made from a Chaos Lord in Terminator Armor.  Read more below.
Did you notice the light behind his head?  And the glow on his Lightning Claw?

Here he is in progress, the battery pack and switch are below him.  The wires run through his right leg and into the torso, connect to one light and then out his shoulder and up his right arm to the claw.

I think the sword is from a bloodletter.

And with the lights on.

It's amazing in a dark space.

I enjoyed making the screaming faces on the sword.  The topknot comes from a Space Wolf.

I like how the eye came out.  Can you see the switch?

The combi-bolter was fun to graft onto the claw.  It started as two chaos bolters.  The battery pack was recessed into the 40mm base, and the rock outcrop from the Chaos Lord in Terminator Armor kit was placed on top.

All in all it was a fun build.  Let me know what you think.

Outpost Psi Upsilon 34 (Mega-Terrain)

Hello and it's time for a new Mega-Terrain Project.  I've lamented the lack of LOS blocking terrain at my local store and have toyed with several ideas.  This idea is a lonely research outpost located on a mesa with a landing pad on an adjacent mesa.

So I imagined the outpost would look something like this:

And I wanted to have a landing pad like this:

I had already determined that this would be something placed in the center of a gameboard, but I wanted to make sure there would be plenty of room to deploy forces and move around the  piece.  Although, I would like to make some smaller mesas as scatter terrain.

After some math, I decided that 24" by 18" was a big piece, but left enough room along the outside.  I found some old high density foam leftover from a previous project and set to work.

The Chaos Predator and Salamander Space Marine give a good sense of scale.  This thing is going to be huge!

Happy with my stacking, I used Gorilla glue and wood glue to bond the foam together.  To add stiffness, I drilled holes and inserted 3/8" wood dowels into both mesas from top to bottom.

Used a hot wire foam tool and a keyhole saw to shape the foam, and make a considerable mess.
(I should probably go clean that up.)

It was important to include ramps so that vehicles could get to the top of the mesa.  Chimeras and Rhinos should have no problems, it's a close fit for the Predator, and I wouldn't recommend trying to get a Land Raider up that hill.

Once the shape was where I liked it, I used a 50/50 water and Elmer's glue mix and some playground sand to seal the surface of the foam.

I then primed it black and brushed on several shades of brown acrylic paint.

I'd been working on the landing platform, and you can see I have 6 of the 8 pieces printed and glued together.  At this point the platform is just resting on the twin mesas, but that's about where I planned it to go.
I'm going to need a bridge to get from the main mesa to the landing platform.  The narrow gorge is great for dreadnoughts, but the Predator's sponsons mean it has to go around.

Here's a great shot of the supports for the platform.

I added small 2" x 2" platforms so that infantry can make their way up the mesas without resorting to the road.  I'll add ladders later.  Check out the bridge and the makeshift repairs.

Another profile shot.

And lastly I finished a small ruined building for the main mesa.  It is based separately, which should give me some flexibility.

Well, let me know what you think.  It's not finished, but I expect to use it in a game this weekend.

I've Fallen to Chaos

As the title says, I've started a Chaos Warband.  I went though the codex and a few older listings of renegade chapters and made the following list of options.

I ended up choosing the 2nd from the left on the top row.  They are named the Warriors of Mayhem.

And here is my first painted figure.

In this army I'm using Army Painter Warpaints almost exclusively and trying to avoid mixing if possible.  Later models will get spray primed with Army Painter Alien Purple.
